Why shop with us?
Castello dei Rampolla Vigna d'Alceo 2020 is a powerful and deeply expressive Tuscan red that showcases the estate’s mastery of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Crafted in the heart of Panzano’s Conca d’Oro, it reflects both the family’s long-standing dedication and the singular character of one of Tuscany’s most respected hillside sites.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep pigeon-blood ruby colour, hinting at its concentration and structure. The bouquet is layered and evocative, moving from undergrowth and preserved black berries to macerated flowers, bark and roots, with Mediterranean scrub, dark spice and mineral notes adding complexity.
On the palate, the wine is firm and tightly built, with abundant tannins that give it an imposing, age-worthy frame. The finish is long and distinctive, marked by a clear almond-like aftertaste that adds lift and memorability. This is a wine with excellent cellaring potential, likely to gain nuance and polish over time.
Production
Vigna d'Alceo comes from the Conca d’Oro in Panzano, a prized Tuscan terroir known for its elevations, exposure and ability to produce wines of great intensity and finesse. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot, vinified to preserve the depth, structure and aromatic complexity of the fruit while expressing the character of the site.
Food & Serving
This is an ideal partner for rich grilled or roasted meats, game, braised beef and lamb, as well as aged hard cheeses and Tuscan-style dishes with herbs and earthy flavours. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least an hour, preferably longer, to allow the wine to open fully and soften its tannic edge.
Producer
Castello dei Rampolla is a landmark estate in Panzano, run by the Di Napoli family since 1964. Widely recognised for helping define the quality reputation of the Conca d’Oro, the estate has earned acclaim for producing wines of depth, character and finesse, with Vigna d’Alceo standing among its most iconic bottlings.
