Description
Castello dei Rampolla Sangiovese of Santa Lucia 2017 is a refined Tuscan red that shows just how expressive Sangiovese can be in the right hands. Made from 100% Sangiovese and aged in French oak for 12 months, it combines depth, elegance, and a distinctly classic Italian character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red color. The nose is layered and inviting, with notes of black fruit, spice, and a touch of leather that add complexity and depth.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and supple, with well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish. The 2017 vintage already offers excellent balance, and its structure suggests it will continue to develop nicely over the next several years.
Production
Produced in Tuscany from 100% Sangiovese grapes, this wine reflects the region’s warm, traditional red-wine heritage. It spends 12 months in French oak barrels, which helps soften the tannins and add nuance while preserving the grape’s natural freshness and character.
Food & Serving
This is a great match for grilled or roasted meat, game dishes, and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you want to open up the aromatics and soften the wine further.
Producer
Castello dei Rampolla is a respected Tuscan producer known for crafting wines that balance tradition with precision. The estate has earned a strong reputation in Chianti and beyond for its expressive, high-quality wines and its dedication to showcasing Sangiovese at its best.
