Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico Riserva 2023 is a finely crafted Tuscan red made from carefully selected Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero, offering a pure expression of Chianti Classico. Made exclusively from native grape varieties, without Cabernet or Merlot, it reflects the region’s tradition and terroir with impressive clarity and authenticity.
Tasting Notes
Expect a bright, ruby-toned wine with the structure and vibrancy that define great Chianti Classico. The nose typically leans toward ripe red cherry, wild berries, dried herbs, and subtle floral notes, with a savoury mineral edge that speaks to its Tuscan origins.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and focused, balancing fresh acidity with fine tannins and a core of red fruit, spice, and earth. The Riserva status suggests added depth and complexity, with good aging potential and the ability to develop more tertiary notes over time, such as leather, tobacco, and dried herbs.
Production
This wine comes from carefully chosen vineyards in Chianti Classico, where the combination of altitude, sun exposure, and well-drained Tuscan soils help Sangiovese show its best qualities. The grapes are selected by hand to ensure only the finest fruit is used for this reserve bottling.
Vinification is guided by a traditional, terroir-driven approach, emphasizing the character of local varieties rather than international grapes. The result is a wine that aims to capture the essence of the vintage and the distinctive personality of Chianti Classico.
Food & Serving
Serve this Riserva with classic Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, roast lamb, game, mushroom risotto, or pasta with rich tomato-based sauces. It is best enjoyed at around 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, especially if the wine is still youthful, to allow its aromas and structure to open fully.
Producer
Castellare di Castellina is one of Chianti Classico’s respected producers, known for a steadfast commitment to native grape varieties and a style rooted in tradition. The estate has built its reputation on wines that express the identity of the region rather than international trends, and it is widely recognized for quality-focused production and consistent excellence in Tuscany.
