Description

Carmel Road Chardonnay 2021 captures Monterey’s balance of generous California fruit and refreshing coastal freshness. Named for the gravel road linking Carmel-by-the-Sea with the vineyards inland, the winery released its first vintage in 1999 and has since focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes
Aromas of golden mango, mandarin and pear mingle with white flowers, vanilla and a creamy, buttery note. The palate is full and textured, with ripe stone fruit and tropical flavours balanced by lively acidity, leading to a long, soft finish.

Production
Monterey’s cool maritime climate, with foggy nights and sunny days, helps Chardonnay develop ripe fruit while retaining freshness. The wine’s creamy character is attributed to ageing on its lees; details about the vineyard sites, harvesting methods and other winemaking steps are not available.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled, around 10–12°C, alongside fish, shellfish, chicken in a creamy sauce or a selection of cheeses. It also makes an easy-going glass on its own. Decanting is not necessary, though a few minutes in the glass can let its aromas open up.

Producer
Carmel Road takes its name from the gravel road between Carmel-by-the-Sea and the vineyards inland. Its first vintage was released in 1999, and the winery has built its focus around Chardonnay and Pinot Noir—varieties well suited to Monterey’s cool, coastal conditions.
