Description
Carbonnieux Grand Cru Classé de Graves is a benchmark Pessac-Léognan from one of Bordeaux’s most historic estates, here presented in a generous 1.5L magnum format that’s ideal for cellaring or sharing. The 2023 vintage combines classic Left Bank structure with the finesse and freshness that make Château Carbonnieux so respected among premium Bordeaux lovers.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby core with a refined violet edge, hinting at its youthful energy. The nose is expected to open with blackcurrant, ripe cherry, plum, and graphite, alongside cedar, pencil shavings, tobacco leaf, and subtle toasted oak.
On the palate, the wine should feel polished yet structured, with ripe dark fruit wrapped in fine tannins and a fresh, mineral-driven finish characteristic of Pessac-Léognan. The magnum format helps preserve freshness and slow development, making it especially well suited to aging over the medium to long term.
Production
Château Carbonnieux is situated on the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan, where well-drained terroir encourages depth, balance, and aromatic precision in the wine. The estate is known for careful parcel selection and harvesting at optimal ripeness, followed by vinification aimed at preserving fruit purity, structure, and the elegance associated with the classified growths of Graves.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, mushroom dishes, and hard cheeses such as aged Comté or Manchego. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, with origins dating back several centuries and a strong reputation in both red and white wine production. Located in the heart of Graves, it holds Grand Cru Classé status and is widely recognized for producing wines of consistency, elegance, and regional significance.
