Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Aristos Kerner 2023 shows a bright, pale straw-yellow hue with subtle green reflections, indicating its youthful vibrancy. The nose is intensely aromatic yet refined, with notes of white peach, ripe pear, and citrus zest layered over elderflower, alpine herbs, and a delicate hint of nutmeg and crushed rock minerality. On the palate, it’s dry, crisp, and finely structured, with a lively acidity that carries flavors of juicy stone fruit, green apple, lime and a saline, stony backbone. The mid-palate is textured and elegant, thanks to time on fine lees, leading to a long, clean finish with lingering floral and mineral notes. While absolutely charming now, this vintage has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 3–5 years, developing more complexity and subtle spice with short-term cellaring.

Production
Cantina Valle Isarco sources the Aristos Kerner from some of the highest and steepest vineyards in the Eisack (Isarco) Valley, in the northernmost part of Alto Adige. Here, poor, rocky soils of granite, schist and slate, combined with large day–night temperature swings and cool Alpine breezes, produce grapes with intense aromatics and vibrant acidity. The fruit is harvested by hand, often from terraced plots that can only be worked manually, allowing for strict selection of only perfectly ripe, healthy clusters. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed, and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to preserve aromatic purity and freshness. The wine then rests on its fine lees for additional texture and complexity before bottling, without heavy oak influence, so the varietal character and mineral-driven terroir can shine through.

Aristos Kerner 2023 is an outstanding partner for delicately aromatic dishes and fresh, high-quality ingredients. Think marinated seafood, grilled prawns, sushi and sashimi, trout or char, as well as asparagus dishes, vegetable risotti, light poultry, and soft to semi-firm alpine cheeses. It also pairs nicely with mildly spiced Asian cuisine, especially dishes with ginger, lemongrass or citrus. Serve well chilled at around 8–10 °C. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring it into a slightly larger white wine glass and giving it a few minutes in the glass helps the aromatics open up beautifully.
