Calera Ryan Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012 is a dark, intense expression of Mount Harlan, showing the depth and mineral edge that have made Calera one of California’s most respected Pinot Noir producers. Sourced from Ryan Vineyard, planted in 1998, this wine combines ripe black-fruited concentration with the site’s signature cool-climate finesse and rocky precision.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is nearly jet black in color, signaling its richness and concentration. The nose is generous and layered, with dark plums, black cherries and mulberries lifted by violet perfume and a subtle sandalwood note. The palate follows through with a deeply flavored core of dark fruit, supported by flavors of licorice and nutmeg, giving the wine both spice and complexity. Despite its intensity, it retains a refined structure and mineral backbone, and while it is already drinking well now, it has the potential to age gracefully for around 15 more years.

Production
Ryan Vineyard was planted in 1998 in Mount Harlan, a high-elevation, cool site known for producing Pinot Noir with a marked mineral character. For the 2012 vintage, 70% of the clusters were fermented whole cluster, helping to add aromatic lift, structure and complexity, before the wine was matured for 20 months in French oak, including 30% new barrels.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck breast, roast game, mushroom dishes, grilled salmon or herb-roasted chicken. Serve at around 16–18°C, and if opening young, decanting for 30–60 minutes can help the wine раскры to its full aromatic depth.
