Description

Ca' del Bosco Sebino Pinot Nero Pinero 2022 is a refined expression of Pinot Nero from one of Lombardy’s most acclaimed estates. This is Ca’ del Bosco’s flagship still red, crafted with the same precision and care that made the winery famous for its Franciacorta sparkling wines. The result is an elegant, terroir-driven Pinot that balances Italian energy with Burgundian finesse. Pinero’s unique appeal lies in its combination of low-yield vineyards, meticulous grape selection, and patient élevage in French oak, giving it admirable depth without sacrificing freshness. As one of the early and most consistent interpretations of Pinot Nero in the Sebino area, it has helped establish Lombardy as a serious address for cool-climate, site-expressive reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Pinero 2022 shows a luminous, medium ruby color with garnet highlights at the rim, signaling both purity and concentration. The nose is vibrant and finely etched, opening with red cherry, wild raspberry and pomegranate, followed by floral notes of violet and rose petal. Subtle layers of sweet baking spice, cocoa powder, and a hint of forest floor and crushed stone add complexity, reflecting both fine oak and the mineral-rich soils of Franciacorta’s hills. On the palate, this is a poised, medium-bodied Pinot Nero with lively, juicy acidity and beautifully polished tannins. Bright red berry fruit is framed by notes of orange zest, soft spice, and a touch of tobacco leaf, flowing into a long, savory finish with a distinct mineral edge. The oak is well-integrated, lending texture and gentle sweetness without overpowering the fruit. Enjoyable in its youth for its clarity and precision, Pinero 2022 will reward a few years of cellaring. Expect optimal drinking between now and around 2028, with the wine gaining additional silkiness, earth tones, and complexity over time.

Production
The grapes for Ca’ del Bosco Pinero are sourced from carefully selected Pinot Nero vineyards in the Sebino area of Lombardy, on the hills surrounding the Franciacorta zone. These sites sit on morainic, clay-limestone and glacially derived soils, which provide both excellent drainage and a strong mineral imprint, while the nearby Lake Iseo helps moderate temperatures and extend the growing season. The vines are low-yielding and meticulously tended, with hand-harvesting into small crates to protect the berries. At the winery, the grapes undergo gentle, gravity-fed handling and careful selection before fermentation. Pinero is traditionally fermented in small vats and then aged in French oak barriques for around a year, a portion of which is new, allowing the wine to gain structure, aromatic complexity and texture without losing the finesse and transparency that are hallmarks of great Pinot Nero.

Food & Serving
Pinero 2022 is a highly versatile gastronomic wine, ideal for dishes that call for finesse rather than sheer power. It pairs beautifully with roast poultry (especially duck or guinea fowl), pork tenderloin with herbs, veal scaloppine, and game birds. Classic Italian pairings include mushroom risotto, truffle-infused dishes, tagliatelle with wild boar ragù (for a lighter red option), and charcuterie with mild to medium-aged cheeses. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its aromatics and structure. A brief decant of 30–45 minutes for young bottles will help the wine open up and soften the tannins, especially if you are enjoying it in its first few years after release.

Producer
Ca’ del Bosco was founded in 1968 by Maurizio Zanella and has since become one of Italy’s benchmark producers, particularly renowned for its world-class Franciacorta sparkling wines. Located in the hills of Franciacorta in Lombardy, the estate helped redefine quality standards in the region through meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and cutting-edge, gravity-flow cellar design. Over time, Ca’ del Bosco has also gained recognition for its still wines, including Pinero, which showcases the potential of Pinot Nero in this cooler, lake-influenced corner of northern Italy. A pioneer of rigorous grape selection and innovative winery practices in Italy, Ca’ del Bosco consistently earns high ratings and international acclaim, cementing its status as a reference point for both Franciacorta and premium still wines from Lombardy.
