Burn Cottage BC Vineyard Riesling Grüner Veltliner 2022 is an expressive New Zealand white wine that brings together Riesling’s bright, aromatic precision with the subtle spice and savoury character of Grüner Veltliner. From one of Central Otago’s distinctive organic and biodynamic estates, it offers a refreshing alternative to more familiar white-wine styles.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in colour, the wine opens with lifted aromas of lime zest, white peach, green apple and delicate floral notes, complemented by a lightly herbal, mineral character. On the palate, vibrant acidity gives the wine energy and definition, while citrus, stone fruit and subtle peppery spice create a fresh, layered expression. The finish is clean, dry and persistent, with a gently saline impression. Enjoyable in its youth, it should develop additional texture and complexity over the next several years when carefully stored.

The wine comes from Burn Cottage’s BC Vineyard in Central Otago, a cool, dry region known for intense sunlight, large day-to-night temperature variations and mineral-rich soils. These conditions help preserve Riesling’s natural freshness while encouraging Grüner Veltliner’s aromatic and savoury character. Burn Cottage is recognised for its organic and biodynamic approach, with fruit handled carefully to preserve purity and site expression through the winemaking process.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its bright acidity and subtle spice make it a versatile partner for fresh seafood, sushi, ceviche, goat’s cheese, salads with citrus dressing and lightly spiced Asian dishes. It also works particularly well with asparagus, green vegetables and delicate poultry preparations. Decanting is not necessary, although opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving can allow its aromas to unfold.
