Bruno Lorenzon’s Mercurey 1er Cru Les Champ Martin Rouge is a refined expression of Burgundy Pinot Noir, combining elegance, precision, and the depth of a prized Premier Cru site. Crafted with a minimal-intervention philosophy and a deep respect for terroir, it captures the finesse that has made Mercurey one of the Côte Chalonnaise’s most compelling appellations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a bright, ruby-red color with subtle depth and clarity. The nose is lifted and expressive, with fragrant layers of raspberry and cherry leading the way, supported by the delicate, earthy nuance that is so typical of well-made Burgundy Pinot Noir.
On the palate, it is harmonious and elegant, with fine tannins, balanced freshness, and a long, graceful finish. The fruit remains at the center, but the wine has enough structure to develop further complexity over time. It is well suited to short- to medium-term aging, where its silky texture and layered aromatics can continue to evolve.
Production
The grapes for this Mercurey 1er Cru are harvested by hand and placed in small 6 kg crates to preserve fruit integrity and quality. Bruno Lorenzon vinifies with a restrained approach, avoiding unnecessary intervention, and ages the wine for 30 months in oak barrels, including 30% new wood, followed by 5 months in stainless steel to refine and stabilize the final blend.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is an excellent match for grilled red meats, game, and soft cheeses, where its freshness and elegance can complement richer flavors without overpowering them. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15–17°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if enjoyed young.
Producer
Bruno Lorenzon is a respected Burgundy producer known for his thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking and his commitment to revealing the character of each vineyard. His work in Mercurey has helped underline the quality potential of the region, and his wines are admired for their purity, precision, and sense of place.
