Brancaia Il Blu 2021

Brancaia Il Blu is one of Tuscany’s most admired Super Tuscan wines, crafted since its debut in 1988 as a continual pursuit of precision and excellence. Drawn from hand-harvested grapes from Brancaia’s top vineyards in Chianti, it combines power, elegance, and remarkable depth in a style that has become a hallmark of the estate.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, Il Blu 2021 offers an intense and refined bouquet of ripe dark berries, plum, and black cherry, layered with hints of spice, graphite, tobacco, and subtle toasted oak. The Merlot-led palate is rich and velvety, yet beautifully balanced by the freshness and structure of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, finishing long with polished, ultra-fine tannins and a supple, generous texture. This is a wine built for the cellar as well as the table. While already expressive, it has the concentration and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years, developing even greater nuance, complexity, and integration with time.

Production
Il Blu is produced from Brancaia’s best hand-selected fruit from vineyards in the Chianti region, with a strong emphasis on the estate’s Merlot parcels in Radda in Chianti. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified separately by vineyard and variety; each lot is aged for 18 months in barriques, around two-thirds of which are new. After careful tasting and selection, the final blend is refined for three months in unlined concrete tanks before being bottled and aged for a further year.

Food & Serving
Ideal with rich dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, roast lamb, game, or truffle-based pasta and risotto. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for 1–2 hours if enjoyed young, to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.
