Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby core with flashes of purple at the rim. The nose is refined and expressive, with notes of blackcurrant, ripe plum, graphite, cedar, violets, and subtle tobacco and spice from oak aging. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a supple, layered texture and well-integrated tannins. Fresh acidity keeps the wine vibrant and precise, while the finish lingers on dark berry fruit, mineral tones, and savory complexity. 2020 is a vintage with excellent aging potential, and Branaire-Ducru should continue to develop beautifully over the coming decade and beyond.

Production
Branaire-Ducru is located in the Saint-Julien appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravelly soils provide excellent drainage and encourage Cabernet Sauvignon to thrive alongside Merlot and smaller proportions of other traditional Bordeaux varieties. The vineyard’s terroir contributes to the wine’s characteristic mix of power, freshness, and fine tannins. The grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness and vinified separately to preserve precision and site expression, followed by aging in French oak barrels to add structure and complexity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, and mushroom-based dishes. It also complements aged hard cheeses and classic Bordeaux-style cuisine. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if enjoying it young to help the aromas open and the tannins soften.
