Branaire-Ducru 2013 is a classic Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected Fourth Growth estates, offering the refinement and balance that have made the château a favorite among Left Bank collectors. This vintage reflects the elegance of the appellation rather than sheer power, with the added appeal of a historic Grand Cru Classé pedigree dating back to the 1855 Classification.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby hue with garnet reflections, suggesting both freshness and early maturity. The nose is likely to open with blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, tobacco leaf, and graphite, with subtle floral and spice notes adding lift.
On the palate, Branaire-Ducru 2013 is expected to be medium-bodied, polished, and precise, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and a savoury, structured finish. The wine’s balance and classic styling should give it good drinkability now, while still allowing further development over the next several years.
Production
Sourced from the gravelly soils of Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, the wine benefits from well-drained terroir that encourages concentration and elegance in equal measure. The estate is known for careful parcel selection, hand harvesting, and traditional Bordeaux vinification, typically followed by aging in French oak to refine the tannins and build complexity.
Food & Serving
This Saint-Julien pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, and mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young, to help the aromatics open and the texture relax.
