Description

Bond St. Eden 2018 is a benchmark single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Napa Valley’s most coveted hillside sites. Crafted in tiny quantities, it marries power and polish, offering collectors a wine built for both contemplation and long-term cellaring. This cuvée has become a modern classic, regularly attracting critical acclaim for its precision, depth and unmistakable sense of place.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, St. Eden 2018 shows a deep, opaque garnet-purple hue that hints at its concentration and youth. The nose begins reserved but quickly unfurls with air, revealing layers of blackcurrant jelly, boysenberry and black raspberry, lifted by exotic notes of clove, black pepper and cumin, with subtle cedar and graphite in the background. On the palate, this is full-bodied and muscular, yet impeccably composed. Dense, ripe, grainy tannins frame a core of dark, succulent fruit, while a bright, energetic acidity keeps the wine vivid rather than heavy. The finish is long, multi-layered and savory, echoing spice and dark berries long after each sip. Built for the long haul, St. Eden 2018 will reward patience, with an optimal drinking window likely spanning 10–30 years from vintage in a proper cellar.

Production
St. Eden is sourced from a singular hillside vineyard on Napa Valley’s famed Oakville bench, planted on well-drained, gravelly, iron-rich soils that naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. The warm, sunny exposure and cooling evening breezes from the bay create ideal conditions for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon with both power and freshness. Grapes are meticulously hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, sorted berry by berry, and vinified in small, temperature-controlled lots to capture the nuances of the site. After fermentation, the wine is aged in predominantly new French oak barrels for an extended period, allowing the dense fruit, firm structure and fine tannins to integrate into the seamless, layered profile that defines St. Eden.

Food & Serving
This wine shines alongside richly flavored, protein-driven dishes: think dry-aged ribeye, lamb rack with rosemary and garlic, slow-braised short ribs or venison with a dark berry reduction. It also works beautifully with truffle-inflected dishes, wild mushrooms, and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C (60–65°F) for best expression. In its youth, decanting for 2–3 hours is highly recommended to allow the aromatics to open and the structure to soften; mature bottles will benefit from a more delicate 30–60 minute decant to remove sediment and gently awaken the wine.

Producer
BOND was founded by Bill Harlan with the singular vision of creating a “grand cru” expression of Napa Valley through a collection of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons. Rather than blending across the valley, BOND focuses on a handful of elite sites, each chosen for its unique terroir and its ability to produce wines of distinct character and longevity. St. Eden is one of the core crus in this portfolio, alongside names like Melbury, Vecina, Quella and Pluribus, and has helped cement BOND’s reputation as one of Napa’s most collectible and terroir-driven producers. Consistent critical praise and strong demand from serious collectors underscore the estate’s significance in shaping modern, world-class Cabernet from California.
