Bollinger La Grande Année Rosé 2018 is a vintage rosé Champagne that combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with still red wine from the celebrated La Côte aux Enfants vineyard. Made in Bollinger’s traditional, oak-influenced style, it brings together ripe fruit, savoury depth and the house’s long-standing commitment to Champagne craftsmanship.
Tasting Notes
A luminous rosé hue leads into aromas of redcurrant and mandarin, with hints of toast and brioche. The palate is creamy yet lively, balancing fresh acidity with red-fruit character and a long finish marked by blood orange and a delicate saline note.
Enjoyable now, the wine’s structure and concentration should also allow it to develop further in the cellar, gaining complexity with time.
Production
The blend draws on Pinot Noir from Aÿ and Verzenay and Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oiry, whose chalk-rich soils contribute freshness and mineral definition. Still red wine from La Côte aux Enfants gives the Champagne its rosé character. The base wines are fermented in old oak barrels before the second fermentation in bottle, followed by at least seven years on the lees; riddling and disgorgement are carried out by hand, and a measured Brut dosage completes the wine. Harvesting methods are not specified.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 8–10°C, allowing the Champagne to open gently in the glass. It pairs well with seared salmon, roast poultry, duck, or dishes featuring shellfish and citrus. Decanting is not usually necessary; for an older bottle, a brief decant in a cool carafe can help reveal its aromas.
Producer
Founded in 1829, Bollinger is one of Champagne’s best-known houses and is closely associated with the village of Aÿ. Its emphasis on Pinot Noir, oak-aged base wines and extended cellar ageing has helped establish a distinctive, richly textured house style. La Grande Année is Bollinger’s vintage cuvée, showcasing the house’s approach in years selected for their quality.
