Tasting Notes
Expect a deep, vivid red color with a polished yet energetic appearance in the glass. Production
Fuente de San Lázaro comes from two south-facing vineyard parcels in Villafranca del Bierzo, planted over 100 years ago and trained in the traditional bush-vine style. The soils are a layered combination of clay and loam with veins of quartz and slate, encouraging deep rooting and giving the wine its structure and mineral tension. The 2020 vintage benefited from a hot summer and a cooler, moderating late summer, allowing slow and aromatic ripening; fermentation began spontaneously with native yeasts after two days of maceration.

This Mencía pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled Iberian pork, duck, mushroom dishes, and aged sheep’s cheese. Serve it at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes, especially if opened young, to let the wine fully express its aromas and texture.
