Bodegas Cepa 21 Malabrigo 2021 is the estate’s most personal and distinctive expression of Tempranillo, sourced from the single vineyard Finca Malabrigo in Castilla y León. The site’s high altitude, north-facing exposure, and dramatic temperature shifts help create grapes with impressive aromatic depth, natural freshness, and a strong sense of place.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Malabrigo 2021 shows a deep cherry-red color with violet highlights. The nose is intense and layered, combining ripe blackberry and blackcurrant with liquorice, herbal spices, and warm vanilla from oak aging. The palate is generous and silky, with polished tannins, balanced acidity, and a firm backbone that keeps the wine feeling vibrant rather than heavy. Flavours of dark fruit, tobacco, dark chocolate, and a touch of balsamic nuance unfold on the long finish, giving the wine both immediate appeal and excellent aging potential over the coming years.

Production
Fruit comes from Finca Malabrigo, a high-altitude single vineyard with sandy clay soils and strong north exposure, which helps preserve freshness while encouraging ripe, concentrated fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness in late September, then destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel for around 26 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place directly in French oak barrels, followed by approximately 18 months of ageing, often in new oak, with no fining and minimal filtration to preserve texture and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for grilled red meats, slow-braised lamb, game, and rich dishes such as beef cheeks or Iberian pork. It also works beautifully with mature cheeses and earthy mushroom-based plates. Serve at 16–18°C and, if possible, decant for about 30–60 minutes to allow the wine’s aromas and structure to open fully.
