Bodega Chacra Barda 2025 is an elegant, vibrant Pinot Noir from the cool, windswept Alto Valle del Río Negro in northern Patagonia. Made from the estate’s youngest vineyards, it offers an accessible introduction to one of South America’s most respected Pinot Noir producers, combining bright red fruit with silky texture and fine mineral freshness. Bodega Chacra was founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson of the creator of the legendary Tuscan wine Sassicaia.
Tasting Notes
The wine has a bright, light ruby appearance. Its expressive nose opens with cranberry, cherry and fresh strawberry, followed by red plum, dried raspberry and a delicate touch of lemon zest. Underneath lies a subtle mineral character reminiscent of crushed stone, adding freshness and precision.
On the palate, Barda is juicy and finely structured, with crisp acidity, delicate tannins and a silky texture. A restrained hint of sandalwood develops towards the long, refreshing finish. It is approachable and enjoyable now, while its balance and finesse should allow it to develop gracefully over the next few years.
Production
The Pinot Noir comes from vines planted in 1990 on light, sandy soils in Alto Valle del Río Negro, a region shaped by cool nights, strong winds and its position between the Andes and the Atlantic Ocean. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with the grapes harvested and sorted by hand. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts at low temperatures in round concrete tanks, after which the wine matures for approximately 11 months—half in concrete and half in French oak barrels, only 15% of which are new. It is bottled unfiltered to preserve its natural character.
Food & Serving
A versatile food wine, Barda Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with salmon, tuna, duck breast, chicken and guinea fowl. It is also well suited to mushroom dishes, risotto, charcuterie and lighter pork preparations. Serve lightly chilled at 14–16°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short period of aeration in the glass or a brief decant can help reveal the wine’s aromatic detail.
Producer
Bodega Chacra was established in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, who chose Patagonia to create a distinctive expression of Pinot Noir rather than continue his family’s celebrated Tuscan tradition. Based in Alto Valle del Río Negro, the estate has become one of Argentina’s benchmark producers, recognised for its organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards, minimal-intervention winemaking and elegant, finely detailed Pinot Noirs.
