Description
Bernard Haas Pinot Gris Vieilles Vignes AOC Alsace 2023 is a characterful Alsace white made from old vines, offering extra depth, concentration, and texture in the glass. Pinot Gris is one of the region’s signature grapes, long valued in Alsace for producing wines with both richness and freshness, and this cuvée reflects that heritage beautifully.
Tasting Notes
Expect a bright, pale gold wine with inviting aromas of ripe orchard fruit, pear, yellow apple, and gentle stone fruit, layered with subtle floral and lightly smoky nuances. On the palate, it is typically medium-bodied and supple, with a rounded texture, balanced acidity, and a dry to off-dry impression that brings breadth without feeling heavy.
The old-vine selection adds more intensity and persistence than a standard Pinot Gris, giving the wine a focused, lingering finish. It can be enjoyed now for its generous fruit and silky texture, but it should also hold well over the next few years as it gains a little more complexity.
Production
Sourced from vieilles vignes in Alsace, this wine benefits from the region’s varied soils and cool continental climate, which help preserve freshness while allowing Pinot Gris to ripen fully. Harvesting is typically done with care to ensure healthy, ripe fruit, and the vinification is aimed at highlighting purity, texture, and the naturally expressive style of the grape.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Gris pairs well with roasted poultry, creamy sauces, mushroom dishes, pâté, and mildly spiced Asian cuisine. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and there is generally no need to decant unless you wish to open up the wine shortly before serving.
