Beran Sonoma County Zinfandel 2017 is a rich, polished California red that shows the signature confidence of Joe Wagner’s winemaking style. Built around ripe fruit, layered spice, and seamless oak influence, it delivers a classic Sonoma Zinfandel profile with plenty of character and balance.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Zinfandel shows a deep, насыщенный ruby core with plenty of youthful brightness. The nose opens with blackberry, boysenberry, pepper, sandalwood, dried spices, dark chocolate, and vanilla, creating an ароматic profile that feels both generous and refined.
The palate is driven by blueberry, cherry, black pepper, and ripe red and dark berries, with notes of boysenberry, cranberry, and a hint of licorice adding complexity. Balanced acidity keeps the wine harmonious and lively, while the structure suggests it can develop nicely over the next few years, though it is already very appealing now.
Production
Sourced from Sonoma County, this Zinfandel reflects California’s warm days and cool evening influence, which help preserve freshness while allowing the grapes to reach full ripeness. While detailed vineyard and cellar information is limited, the wine clearly follows a style that emphasizes ripe fruit expression, generous oak spice, and a smooth, balanced finish.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled ribs, barbecue chicken, pepper-crusted steak, braised short ribs, or a burger with sharp cheddar. It also works well with smoky dishes, roasted vegetables, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider giving it a short decant if you want to soften the spice and let the aromas open up further.
Producer
Beran is led by Joe Wagner, a name closely associated with Caymus and a modern, fruit-forward California winemaking style. The brand draws on that pedigree to craft expressive, approachable wines with strong regional identity, and its Sonoma County Zinfandel is a good example of that approach: bold, polished, and reliably well put together.
