Description
Benoît Déhu’s Initiation Rosé Brut Nature 2022 is a characterful Champagne that combines precision, texture and purity in a style that feels both modern and rooted in tradition. Built from Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir and bottled without dosage, it offers a vivid, vinous expression of Champagne that stands out for its dryness, energy and detail. The cuvée reflects the grower’s thoughtful, hands-on approach and the increasingly sought-after artisanal side of the region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a delicate salmon-pink hue with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is bright and expressive, with notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, citrus peel, subtle red currant and a faint floral lift, all supported by chalky, lees-driven nuance.
On the palate, the wine is crisp and focused, with red berry fruit, orchard fruit and a saline, mineral edge framing its bone-dry profile. The absence of dosage keeps the finish taut and refreshing, while the Pinot Meunier adds supple texture and Pinot Noir brings depth and structure. It should drink beautifully now for its freshness and precision, with the potential to gain a little more complexity over the next few years.
Production
Produced in Champagne, France, this rosé is made from Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, grapes that are particularly well suited to showing the region’s balance of fruit and minerality. The 2022 vintage suggests a wine shaped by careful vineyard work and selective harvesting, with vinification aimed at preserving purity, texture and site character. As a Brut Nature bottling, it is made without added dosage, allowing the terroir and grape expression to remain front and center.
Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs wonderfully with tuna tartare, salmon, sushi, roast poultry, charcuterie or delicate dishes with mushrooms and herbs. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and consider a short decant only if you want to soften its youthful edge, though it is usually best enjoyed straight from the bottle to preserve its freshness and mousse.
