Benjamin Leroux’s Saint-Romain Blanc Sous le Château is a finely tuned Chardonnay from one of Burgundy’s best-value, high-altitude villages. Sourced from the cool slopes of Saint-Romain and crafted from carefully selected fruit, it showcases the producer’s signature balance of energy, elegance, and mineral precision.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, luminous pale gold hue. The nose is fresh and expressive, with notes of pomelo, citrus zest, green apple, and a subtle chalky minerality that gives the wine immediate lift and definition. The palate is silky and beautifully layered, combining juicy orchard fruit with a crisp, mouthwatering line of acidity. The texture is generous without feeling heavy, and the crunchy mineral finish keeps everything focused and refined. Enjoy it now for its vibrant freshness, though it should gain a little extra complexity over the next 3–5 years.

Production
This wine comes entirely from the lieu-dit Sous le Château in Saint-Romain, a cool, west-facing area in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune known for its slower ripening and naturally fresh fruit profile. Benjamin Leroux works with hand-selected growers whose fruit quality he personally approves, seeking out understated sites with strong terroir expression. The wine was aged for 12 months in a combination of small and large oak barrels, allowing for texture and depth while preserving tension and purity.

Food & Serving
Ideal with baked white fish, beurre blanc, or delicate shellfish dishes, as well as roast chicken and creamy vegetable preparations. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a brief splash in a carafe can help the wine open up if served young.
