Belvento Sangiovese Toscana 2024 is a medium-bodied red from Petra, showcasing the elegant, food-friendly character of Sangiovese grown in coastal Tuscany. Made in Suvereto as part of the I Vini del Mare range, it combines ripe cherry fruit, gentle spice and a lingering liquorice finish with the distinctive influence of vineyards shaped by both hills and sea.
Tasting Notes
The wine has an intense ruby-red appearance and a fragrant bouquet led by ripe cherries, complemented by subtle spicy nuances. On the palate, it is linear and well balanced, with supple structure, refreshing fruit and a pleasant liquorice note on the finish. Its oak maturation helps soften the tannins and add depth, while the wine’s approachable style makes it enjoyable now; it should develop gracefully over the next few years when stored properly.
Production
The Sangiovese grapes are cultivated in Suvereto, a prestigious part of Tuscany where the nearby sea moderates the coastal climate. The vineyards are planted in sandy-clay soils with a notable limestone component, and low-yield cultivation promotes concentration and balanced ripening. Trained using the Guyot system, the grapes are fermented in stainless-steel tanks to preserve freshness and varietal character, followed by at least 12 months of maturation in a combination of small and large oak barrels, then further bottle ageing before release.
Food & Serving
Serve this Sangiovese at around 16–18°C with roasted meats, game, hearty pasta dishes or mature cheeses. Its balanced structure and savoury finish also make it a natural match for rustic Tuscan cuisine. Decanting is not essential, but a short 20–30 minute decant can help open the aromas, particularly when serving a younger bottle.
Producer
Petra was founded in 1997 and is based in Suvereto, where it focuses on expressing the character of Tuscany’s coastal vineyards. Belvento Sangiovese is part of the winery’s I Vini del Mare project, created to highlight the unique winegrowing landscape between the sea and the hills. Produced under the guidance of oenologist Giuseppe Caviola, the wine reflects Petra’s commitment to combining precise winemaking with the distinctive identity of the territory.
