Bellingham Homestead Series Pinotage 2022 is a full-bodied South African red that captures the distinctive character of the country’s signature grape variety. Richly fruited, gently spiced and framed by supple tannins, it combines traditional Cape winemaking with a polished modern style. Its pedigree is further highlighted by a 91-point rating from Robert Parker.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep dark-red colour with bright ruby highlights. Its expressive nose reveals ripe plum, mulberry, raspberry and black cherry, complemented by subtle sweet spice. On the palate, generous fruit is joined by notes of vanilla, cardamom and warming spice. Soft tannins provide balance and structure, leading to a long, lively finish. Enjoyable now, it should also develop gracefully over the medium term thanks to its fruit concentration and oak-supported structure.

Production
The Pinotage grapes are sourced from vineyards in the coastal Stellenbosch area, one of South Africa’s most respected wine regions. The vines are cultivated using the traditional bush-vine system, which naturally limits yields and helps produce small, intensely flavoured berries. Careful barrel maturation enriches the wine’s spicy profile while preserving the character of the fruit and contributes to its ageing potential.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for around one hour to allow the wine’s aromas and texture to fully open. Its generous, enveloping style pairs particularly well with game, roast lamb, braised ribs, mature cheeses and richly flavoured mushroom dishes.
