Belle Glos Balade Pinot Noir 2023 is a striking California Pinot Noir that combines richness, precision, and coastal elegance. Sourced this vintage from selected vineyards in Santa Lucia Highlands, it reflects Joe Wagner’s ongoing search for sites that deliver both intensity and finesse. Balade, meaning “walk” or “stroll” in French, speaks to that journey in pursuit of the ideal terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep violet-red color that hints at its concentration. The nose is expressive and layered, with blackberry, cherry, and dark plum lifted by violet, honeysuckle, and a touch of cherry cola, vanilla spice, and oak-derived warmth. The palate is plush and creamy, offering dark fruit at the core with accents of wild mint, pepper, and bright, juicy acidity. The tannins are fine and polished, giving the wine structure without hardness, while the finish is long and gently sweet with vanilla and spice. This is a Pinot Noir built for immediate appeal, though it should also hold nicely over the next several years.

Production
The grapes are 100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested from select single-vineyard sites in Santa Lucia Highlands, where the cooling influence of the Pacific helps preserve freshness and aromatic lift. Joe Wagner destems the fruit before fermentation and matures the wine for 12 months in French oak, with around 60% new barrels, adding texture, depth, and subtle spice while keeping the fruit central.

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted duck, grilled salmon, pork tenderloin, mushroom risotto, or dishes with earthy herbs and a touch of spice. Serve slightly chilled at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 20–30 minutes if you want the aromas to open further and the oak to integrate more seamlessly.
