Tasting Notes
In the glass, Meridia 2023 shows a bright straw-yellow color with greenish reflections, signaling its freshness and youth. The nose is lifted and clean, with notes of green apple, pear, white peach and citrus zest, layered with hints of wild herbs, almond blossom and a saline, almost stony undertone typical of Matelica. On the palate, the wine is dry, medium-bodied and remarkably precise, with lively acidity and a distinct mineral backbone. Flavors of lemon, lime, crunchy orchard fruit and a touch of bitter almond lead into a refreshing, persistent finish. The texture is both taut and slightly creamy, reflecting careful work in the cellar. While delicious now for its vibrancy and clarity of fruit, this vintage has the structure to develop for 3–5 years, gaining more nutty, honeyed and savory complexity with time.

Production
Belisario sources Verdicchio from vineyards in the Matelica valley, an inland area of Marche characterized by higher elevations, significant day–night temperature swings and calcareous-clay soils that give Verdicchio its hallmark tension and minerality. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and careful selection in the vineyard. After gentle pressing, the must is fermented at controlled, cool temperatures in stainless steel to preserve aromatic purity and the grape’s natural acidity. The wine is then aged on fine lees for a period, adding subtle texture and complexity without masking the grape’s fresh, linear profile.

This Verdicchio di Matelica is a natural partner for seafood of all kinds—think grilled prawns, seared scallops, simply prepared white fish or seafood risotto. It also pairs beautifully with fresh goat cheese, vegetable antipasti, sushi, and light pasta dishes with herbs, olive oil or clams. Serve at about 8–10°C to emphasize its freshness and aromatics; if possible, open the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving or give it a brief, gentle decant in a carafe to let the citrus, floral and mineral notes fully express themselves.
