Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2014 Belair-Monange shows a deep ruby core with garnet highlights forming at the rim, signalling both youth and the first hints of development. The nose is straight and focused rather than showy at first, with aromas that unfold gradually: red and black cherries, ripe plum, crushed stone and graphite, joined by notes of dried rose petals and a touch of tobacco as it takes on air. On the palate, the wine really delivers: the texture is silk-smooth, with finely woven tannins and a vibrant, well-judged acidity that gives real lift. Dark berry fruit and black cherry are layered with subtle cocoa, spice and a distinctive limestone-driven minerality that runs through the mid-palate into a long, precise finish with a gentle, savoury bite. Still on an upward curve, this vintage has the structure and balance to age gracefully for another 10–15 years from now, gaining in complexity and aromatic nuance.

Production
Belair-Monange is drawn from prime vineyards on the historic limestone plateau and slopes of Saint-Émilion, where thin clay topsoils sit over fractured limestone, giving low yields and a natural tension and minerality in the wines. The blend is dominated by Merlot with a supporting share of Cabernet Franc, all harvested by hand in small parcels to ensure optimal ripeness and sorting. After gentle destemming and fermentation in temperature-controlled vats, the wine is macerated to extract fine-grained tannins and depth, then aged in French oak barrels (a proportion new) to integrate structure and add subtle spice, while preserving the clarity of fruit and the imprint of the terroir.

Food & Serving
This 2014 is a highly food-friendly Saint-Émilion, ideal alongside roast lamb with herbs, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or veal with morel sauce. It also pairs beautifully with truffled poultry, game birds, wild mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses like Comté or mature Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) for best expression, and decant 1–2 hours before serving to allow the bouquet to open and the mineral-driven structure to soften and harmonise.
