Description

Beauséjour (Duffau Lagarrosse) 2015 is a benchmark Saint‑Émilion Grand Cru Classé from one of the appellation’s most coveted limestone slopes. This is a deeply layered, age‑worthy red that captures the precision and finesse of a superb Right Bank vintage. Combining old‑vine concentration with a refined, almost Burgundian elegance, it’s a bottle that will delight serious Bordeaux collectors and ambitious home cellars alike.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Beauséjour Duffau Lagarrosse shows a vivid, dark garnet core with purple reflections that hint at its youthful intensity. The nose is beautifully sculpted: ripe black cherry, cassis and wild blackberry unfold alongside violets, graphite, and crushed stone, with subtle notes of tobacco leaf, cocoa, and sweet baking spices from careful oak aging. On the palate, this is both powerful and precise. A plush, velvety entry of ripe black and red fruits is quickly framed by fine, chalk‑derived tannins that bring tension and freshness. Flavors of black cherry, plum, and blackcurrant are layered with licorice, pencil shavings, and a savory, almost truffley earthiness. The finish is long and mouth‑coating, lifted by a vibrant mineral backbone and well‑integrated acidity. While already seductive with some air, the 2015 clearly has the structure to evolve beautifully for 15–20 years from vintage, gaining further complexity and tertiary notes with time in the cellar.

Production
Beauséjour (Duffau Lagarrosse) sits on the famed limestone plateau and steep côtes overlooking the village of Saint‑Émilion, a terroir renowned for producing some of the Right Bank’s most hauntingly aromatic and age‑worthy wines. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Merlot with a significant proportion of Cabernet Franc, rooted deep in thin clay over solid limestone—a combination that naturally limits yields and concentrates flavor while preserving freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand in small parcels at optimal ripeness, with strict sorting in the vineyard and at the winery. Vinification typically takes place in temperature‑controlled vats, allowing for gentle extraction of color, tannin, and aromatics, followed by élevage in French oak barrels (a portion new) to refine structure and add subtle spice without overwhelming the purity of fruit and expression of place.

Food & Serving
This 2015 Saint‑Émilion Grand Cru Classé is a natural partner for refined, savory dishes. Think roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, beef tenderloin, duck breast with a red‑wine reduction, or slow‑braised short ribs. It also pairs beautifully with truffle‑infused dishes, wild mushrooms, and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or old Gouda, which echo the wine’s earthy and mineral nuances. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Bordeaux stems, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth to allow the layered aromatics and tannins to fully unfurl. With additional bottle age, a shorter decant or even a careful splash into a carafe will be enough to bring the wine to life.

Producer
Château Beauséjour (Duffau Lagarrosse) is one of the historic jewels of Saint‑Émilion, with origins that trace back several centuries on some of the appellation’s most hallowed limestone terroir. Long admired by insiders and collectors, the estate gained wider fame thanks to highly acclaimed vintages that showcased just how profound its wines can be when everything aligns. Its position on the central plateau and steep slopes places it among the elite crus of the Right Bank, and its Grand Cru Classé status reflects this privileged setting. Over the years, Beauséjour Duffau Lagarrosse has been recognized for producing particularly age‑worthy, characterful wines that combine depth and minerality, helping to cement Saint‑Émilion’s reputation as a source of some of Bordeaux’s most soulful Merlot‑ and Cabernet Franc–based reds.
