Description

Beaune Grèves Vigne l'Enfant Jésus, Monopole 2018 is one of the standout wines from Bouchard Père & Fils, sourced from a prized 3.9-hectare monopole in Beaune’s Premier Cru Les Grèves. Made from Pinot Noir, it combines depth, finesse and a strong sense of place, backed by the pedigree of one of Burgundy’s oldest and most respected houses.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep, vivid colour and immediately impresses with an aromatic profile of dark berries, black cherry, blueberry, dried flowers, dark chocolate, espresso and a touch of toasty oak. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, yet also refined, with supple tannins, fine acidity and a long, expansive finish. Despite its generous fruit, this is a wine with structure and balance, so it will reward patience in the cellar. It already shows great class, but the 2018 vintage has the depth and concentration to age beautifully for many years, developing more savoury, floral and earthy complexity over time.

Production
The wine comes from the monopole of Les Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus, a highly regarded Premier Cru site in Beaune known for producing Pinot Noir with power, purity and precision. The terroir here is especially suited to ripe, expressive fruit with a firm mineral backbone, and Bouchard’s approach is designed to let that character shine through. Harvesting is carried out with care to preserve fruit quality, and vinification takes place in Bouchard Père & Fils’ modern gravity-flow cellar at Château de Beaune. The estate combines traditional Burgundian methods with precise, contemporary winemaking, allowing each parcel to retain its own identity while building complexity and structure in the wine.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic Burgundy dishes such as roast duck, beef fillet, venison, game birds, mushroom tart and braised lamb. It also works well with richer mushroom-based dishes and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours when young to let the wine open fully.

Producer
Founded in 1731, Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and most important names in Burgundy, with an exceptional portfolio of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards across the Côte d’Or. Based at the historic Château de Beaune, the estate has long been known for the scale and quality of its vineyard holdings, as well as for wines that clearly express their individual terroirs. Since its acquisition by Joseph Henriot in 1995, the domaine has undergone major investment, including the construction of a state-of-the-art winery completed in 2005. Today, under the direction of Gilles de Larouzière and winemaker Frédéric Weber, Bouchard continues to be recognised for producing some of the region’s most consistent and terroir-driven wines, with a reputation that has only grown stronger in recent years.
