Bava Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato 2025 is a distinctive dry red from Piemonte, made entirely from the local Ruchè grape and prized for its fragrant, highly expressive character. From one of Italy’s smallest and most singular appellations, it captures the floral, spicy identity of Monferrato in a fresh, contemporary style with a long local heritage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, youthful red color that hints at its vibrant fruit and aromatic lift. The nose is immediately marked by rose petals and violet, layered with white pepper, licorice, and wild berries. On the palate, it is warm and well balanced, with flavors of cherry and blueberry framed by delicate tannins and a lively, easy-drinking texture. The absence of oak preserves the grape’s natural perfume, making this a wine that is enjoyable young, though it can gain a little more complexity over the next few years in bottle.

Production
The grapes come from the Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato zone in Monferrato, an exclusive area of just seven villages where vineyards sit at around 200 meters above sea level. The vines are trained using the Guyot system and rooted in soils with a pronounced limestone character, which helps give the wine structure, freshness, and precision. Harvest is carried out by hand at full ripeness, followed by a short maceration and fermentation designed to protect the variety’s primary aromas, with no oak aging before spring bottling and further bottle maturation.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine that works especially well with cured meats, roasted poultry, pork, mushroom dishes, and medium-aged cheeses, as well as more aromatic Mediterranean cuisine. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, and decanting is not necessary unless you want to open up the aromatics for a broader expression.
