Barone Pizzini Franciacorta Saten 2022

Barone Pizzini Franciacorta Satèn 2022 is an elegant organic and vegan sparkling wine from Lombardy, made exclusively from Chardonnay according to the traditional method. Its Satèn style is defined by a lower pressure than standard Franciacorta, creating a notably silky texture while preserving a fine, persistent mousse. With roots reaching back to 1870, Barone Pizzini is one of Franciacorta’s historic producers and a leading advocate of sustainable viticulture in the region.

Tasting Notes
The wine appears straw yellow with delicate golden highlights and a refined, persistent stream of bubbles. Its broad and expressive bouquet combines citrus and dried apricot with subtle notes of hazelnut and resin, reflecting the extended lees ageing and the influence of both steel and oak during maturation. On the palate, the mousse is soft, creamy and beautifully integrated. Freshness provides balance to the wine’s structured body, while mineral nuances lend definition and length to the finish. Although enjoyable now, its traditional-method character and extended bottle ageing give it the structure to develop further over the next several years when stored in suitable conditions.

Production
The Chardonnay comes from Barone Pizzini’s historic Clogna, Carabioli and Ronchi vineyards, located at approximately 220–260 metres above sea level. The vines are rooted in porous morainic soils formed by fluvio-glacial deposits, gravel and deep alluvial layers, imparting freshness and a distinctive mineral character. The grapes are gently pressed before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine then matures for around ten months in steel and barrels, followed by a second fermentation in bottle and approximately 30–40 months of lees ageing according to the traditional method. The result is a polished Satèn with depth, softness and excellent balance.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. This versatile Franciacorta is an excellent match for delicate starters, seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, poultry and other light meats, while its creamy texture also complements refined cheeses. Decanting is not recommended, as it would quickly diminish the wine’s carbonation; instead, open gently and serve in tulip-shaped sparkling-wine glasses to preserve both the mousse and the aromas.
