Baglio di Pianetto’s organic Viognier brings an expressive, aromatic style to Sicily, combining ripe stone-fruit character with a distinctive mineral, gently saline edge. Founded in 1997, the winery draws on high-altitude vineyards in Santa Cristina Gela to give this Sicilian DOC wine freshness and aromatic definition.

Tasting Notes
The nose is richly perfumed, with mango and apricot alongside spring flowers and toasted almonds. On the palate, it is full-bodied and aromatic, balanced by mineral freshness and a note reminiscent of ripe Japanese loquat, with a long, well-proportioned finish. No specific aging potential is provided.

Production
The Viognier comes from organically farmed vineyards in Contrada Pianetto, near Santa Cristina Gela, at around 750 metres above sea level. The clay-rich, stony soils contribute to the wine’s mineral character, while pronounced day-to-night temperature changes help preserve acidity and aromatic intensity. Grapes are hand-harvested in three passes to capture different stages of ripeness, then gently pressed and spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The wine rests on its lees in steel for three months, followed by at least two months of bottle aging.

Food & Serving
Enjoy with fish dishes, seafood and light starters. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, to let its aromatic character show while keeping its freshness. Decanting is not necessary; simply open shortly before serving.
