Description

Baglio di Pianetto’s 2025 Catarratto is an organic Sicilian white that brings the island’s distinctive Catarratto Bianco Comune grape into focus. Grown at altitude near Santa Cristina Gela, it combines bright citrus and floral aromas with a notably saline, mineral character.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with lemon zest, bitter orange, orange blossom and jasmine, followed by hints of passion fruit, ginger and sweet spice. On the palate, it is dry and medium-bodied, with lively acidity, pronounced salinity and mineral notes leading to a long, pleasantly almond-like finish. No specific aging guidance is provided; its fresh, aromatic profile makes it appealing to enjoy young.

Production
The organic vineyards lie in Contrada Pianetto, Santa Cristina Gela, at around 750 metres above sea level. Marked day-to-night temperature shifts help preserve freshness, while medium-textured, clay-based soils rich in stones and minerals contribute to the wine’s mineral character. The grapes are hand-harvested in three passes at different stages of ripeness, then gently pressed and statically clarified. The must ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The three separately vinified base wines are blended after three months on the lees, followed by at least two months of rest before release.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 8–10°C, alongside grilled seafood, shellfish, citrus-dressed salads or fresh cheeses. Its saline finish also suits simply prepared fish and vegetable dishes. Decanting is generally unnecessary; open shortly before serving.
