Astrales Ribera del Duero 2020

Astrales Ribera del Duero 2020 is a powerful yet refined Tempranillo that captures the depth and character of one of Spain’s most celebrated wine regions. Made entirely from Tinto Fino sourced from selected vineyards in Anguix and Burgos, it combines intensity, elegance, and a distinctly Ribera del Duero style. Its careful élevage in new French oak adds complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep cherry-red color with impressive concentration. The nose is expressive and layered, offering dark berries such as blackberry and plum, alongside notes of tobacco, spice, and a subtle smoky edge. The palate is full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with a creamy texture, ripe fruit, and fine tannins that bring structure without harshness. A warm, integrated 15% alcohol adds depth and richness, while the finish is long and gently spicy. This is a wine with excellent cellaring potential, and it should develop further complexity over the next several years.

Production
The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards in Anguix and Burgos, where the calcareous clay soils provide excellent drainage and help shape the wine’s mineral backbone and structure. After hand sorting, the fruit undergoes 15 days of fermentation and maceration to extract color, flavor, and tannin. The wine is then matured for 18 months in new French oak barrels, which enhance its complexity, spice, and aging capacity.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for grilled or roasted red meats, lamb, game, and rich stews, as well as aged Manchego or other firm cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C for the best expression, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.
