Description
Assailly Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 2013 is a refined Blanc de Blancs crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grown in some of Champagne’s most prized Grand Cru vineyards. This vintage cuvée captures the tension, elegance, and depth of the 2013 harvest, offering a sophisticated expression for Champagne lovers who value precision and terroir. Combining fine craftsmanship with long lees aging, it delivers a complex, gastronomic style that still retains an invigorating freshness.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2013 Grand Cru Brut Millésimé shows a bright, luminous straw‑gold colour with delicate, persistent bubbles forming a fine, creamy mousse. On the nose, it opens with aromas of lemon zest, crisp green apple, and white peach, layered with notes of brioche, toasted almond, and chalky minerality, along with subtle hints of acacia blossom and citrus blossom.
The palate is taut, precise, and elegantly structured, with a vibrant line of acidity carrying flavours of citrus, orchard fruits, and a touch of stone fruit. Underneath, you’ll find nuances of hazelnut, fresh pastry, and a salty, chalk-driven minerality that clearly speaks of Grand Cru Chardonnay. The finish is long, clean, and mouthwatering, balancing maturity from bottle age with a still-youthful energy. Enjoyable now, this 2013 vintage has the structure and acidity to develop further complexity over the next 5–8 years if stored well.
Production
Sourced from Grand Cru vineyards in the heart of the Champagne region, this cuvée is born from chalk-rich soils that lend finesse, tension, and a distinct mineral backbone to the Chardonnay. Grapes are typically hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and ensure rigorous selection of only the healthiest bunches. In the cellar, gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation protect delicate aromatics, while extended aging on the lees in bottle builds texture, complexity, and fine, persistent bubbles before disgorgement and a carefully judged Brut dosage.
Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is superb with refined dishes such as oysters, scallops, turbot, and other delicate white fish, as well as sushi, sashimi, and fine shellfish platters. It also pairs beautifully with creamy goat cheese, lightly aged cow’s milk cheeses, and elegant poultry dishes with citrus or cream-based sauces. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass to highlight its aromatic complexity and minerality. A brief 15–20 minutes in the glass or a short, gentle decant in a wide-bottomed carafe can help the wine open up and reveal its full range of flavours.
