Description
Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Clos des Ruchottes 2012 is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most celebrated monopole parcels. Built on precision, perfume, and mineral drive, it captures both the power of Grand Cru Burgundy and the finesse that has made Rousseau a benchmark producer for generations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a luminous, refined ruby-red color that hints at its elegance rather than sheer weight. The nose is complex and graceful, unfolding with red cherry, raspberry, forest floor, delicate spice, and floral notes, all carried by a clear stony minerality that reflects the Clos des Ruchottes terroir.
On the palate, the wine is defined by silky tannins, bright acidity, and a core of ripe red fruit layered with earthy nuance and subtle spice. It has impressive length and purity on the finish, with a finely etched, persistent mineral line. While already approachable, it has the structure and balance to age beautifully for many years.
Production
The Clos des Ruchottes parcel sits within the prestigious Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, one of Burgundy’s most revered Pinot Noir sites. As a monopole, it offers a singular expression of terroir, shaped by limestone-rich soils and the vineyard’s naturally precise, mineral-driven profile. The 2012 growing season was marked by early frost and hail, but a warm autumn allowed the grapes to reach excellent ripeness while preserving freshness and definition. Winemaking at Domaine Armand Rousseau is traditionally focused on restraint and transparency, allowing the character of the vineyard and vintage to shine through.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for dishes that complement its finesse and earthy complexity, such as roast duck, pigeon, quail, lamb with herbs, or mushroom-based dishes. It also works beautifully with game birds and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening now to help the aromatics fully unfold.
Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most iconic domaines, long regarded as a reference point for fine Gevrey-Chambertin and top-tier Grand Cru Pinot Noir. Founded in the early 20th century and built on a legacy of careful vineyard stewardship and meticulous winemaking, the estate has become synonymous with elegance, consistency, and age-worthy wines. Its reputation is supported by a remarkable lineup of Grand Cru holdings and a style that showcases purity, balance, and terroir expression.
