Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Chambertin Grand Cru 2011 is a benchmark expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated vineyards, crafted entirely from Pinot Noir. Sourced from the legendary Chambertin site in Gevrey-Chambertin, it combines finesse, depth, and unmistakable Grand Cru pedigree in a wine that has long been admired for its purity and restraint.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby color that hints at its elegance and energy. The bouquet is layered and seductive, with ripe cherry and raspberry at the forefront, followed by hints of spice, forest floor, floral notes, and a subtle smoky edge. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a fresh, balanced acidity that carries the fruit beautifully. Its finish is long and persistent, marked by red fruit, spice, and a refined mineral thread. While already expressive, it has excellent aging potential and should continue to gain complexity over time, developing nuances of leather, tobacco, truffle, and earth.

Production
The vines grow on the limestone- and clay-rich soils of Gevrey-Chambertin, a terroir that lends the wine its mineral backbone, structure, and depth. The 2011 vintage brought a mix of challenging weather conditions, but careful vineyard work resulted in grapes with good ripeness and vibrant acidity. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, the wine reflects classic Burgundian vinification aimed at preserving precision, perfume, and elegance.

Food & Serving
This is a superb wine for refined dishes such as roast duck, venison, pigeon, or truffle-infused poultry, as well as earthy mushroom-based preparations and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended if drinking young, though only gently and for a limited time to preserve its aromatic detail.

Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most iconic producers, with a reputation built on precision, consistency, and exceptional vineyard holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. Founded in the early 20th century, the domaine has become synonymous with some of the region’s most sought-after Grand Cru wines. Its Chambertin is especially revered among collectors for its balance of power, elegance, and long-term aging potential.
