Description
Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Chambertin Grand Cru 2007 is a graceful example of how a great estate can shine even in a challenging Burgundy vintage. From one of the Côte de Nuits’ most legendary vineyards, this wine combines finesse, complexity, and the unmistakable depth of Chambertin with the early approachability of the 2007 year.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, refined ruby color. The nose is beautifully aromatic, opening with fresh red berries such as cherry, raspberry, and redcurrant, lifted by violet, forest floor, gentle spice, and a subtle mineral thread.
The palate is silky and precise, with fine tannins and lively acidity giving the wine a light, almost airy feel without sacrificing depth. Red fruit remains at the core, supported by earthy, spicy nuances and a long, elegant finish. While it is already drinking well, it should continue to hold its charm for a number of years thanks to its balance and pedigree.
Production
Made from Pinot Noir grown in the historic Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, where limestone-rich soils and an exceptional exposure help produce wines of power and nuance. The 2007 vintage in Burgundy was cool and uneven, but a better late season allowed the grapes to reach good maturity. Domaine Armand Rousseau is known for careful vineyard work and restrained vinification that preserves purity, perfume, and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for dishes that highlight the delicacy of Pinot Noir, such as roast duck, quail, pigeon, veal, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based dishes and truffled risotto. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if the bottle has been recently opened, though it can also be enjoyed with minimal aeration.
Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most revered producers, with a long history of making benchmark wines from top sites in Gevrey-Chambertin and beyond. Founded in the early 20th century, the estate is celebrated for its elegant, terroir-driven style and for producing some of the most sought-after wines in the Côte de Nuits. Its reputation is built on consistency, precision, and an exceptional understanding of Grand Cru vineyards.
