Description

Argentiera Poggio ai Ginepri 2023 is a contemporary Tuscan red that marries Bordeaux grape varieties with the sun-drenched character of the Bolgheri coast. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it offers both depth and immediate drinkability. This cuvée has become a modern classic in coastal Tuscany, showcasing how international varieties can express true Italian elegance and Mediterranean charm.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Poggio ai Ginepri 2023 shows a deep, vibrant ruby colour with youthful purple highlights along the rim. The nose is generous and inviting, offering layers of ripe blackberries, dark cherries and plums, supported by notes of graphite, cedar, Mediterranean herbs and a subtle touch of sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet polished, with an intense structure wrapped in a supple, velvety texture. Juicy black fruit and redcurrant tones are framed by fine-grained tannins and a fresh, coastal acidity that keeps everything lively and precise. The finish is notably pure and clean, with lingering notes of dark berries, cocoa and a hint of tobacco. Enjoyable in its youth for its immediacy and softness, it will develop additional complexity over the next 5–7 years under good cellaring conditions.

Production
Poggio ai Ginepri is sourced from Tenuta Argentiera’s vineyards in the Bolgheri area of Tuscany, where proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea and well-drained, mineral-rich soils of sand, clay and stones create ideal conditions for Bordeaux varieties. The coastal breezes moderate the warm Mediterranean climate, helping grapes achieve full ripeness while retaining freshness. Grapes are harvested parcel by parcel at optimal maturity, often by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches. In the cellar, the varieties are typically vinified separately in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve aromatics and fruit definition, followed by maturation in a combination of oak (often barriques and larger wooden vessels) and stainless steel. This balanced approach to élevage brings structure and complexity without overwhelming the wine’s natural fruit purity and vibrant character.

Food & Serving
This Tuscan blend is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with grilled meats, roast lamb, beef tagliata, and hearty pasta dishes such as ragù alla bolognese or pappardelle with wild boar. It also works well with aged pecorino, charcuterie and dishes featuring mushrooms or roasted root vegetables. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) for optimal balance and expression. A brief decant of 30–45 minutes is recommended in its youth to soften the tannins and open up the aromatic profile.

Producer
Tenuta Argentiera is one of Bolgheri’s leading estates, located in the southernmost and highest part of the appellation, where vineyards look directly over the Tyrrhenian Sea. The estate has quickly built a reputation for producing wines that combine power, precision and a distinctive coastal elegance, earning recognition both in Italy and on the international stage. Argentiera’s meticulous vineyard work and focus on expressing terroir through Bordeaux varieties have made it a reference point for Bolgheri reds, with Poggio ai Ginepri playing a key role as the estate’s accessible yet serious introduction to their style.
