Description
Argentiera Bolgheri Rosso Superiore is a polished Tuscan red that captures the character of Bolgheri with depth, freshness, and finesse. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it combines generous fruit, refined structure, and a distinctly coastal sense of elegance. The estate’s name also nods to the ancient Etruscan silver mines that once shaped this part of Tuscany, adding a layer of history to every bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a clear ruby-red color with impressive intensity. The nose opens with blackberry, blueberry, and blackcurrant, followed by layered notes of black tea, cured tobacco, and sweet spice.
On the palate it is dense and powerful, yet balanced by fresh fruit-driven acidity and elegant tannins. The finish is long and slightly smoky, leaving a refined impression. While already expressive in youth, it has the structure to develop beautifully with a few years in bottle.
Production
The vineyards sit close to the Tyrrhenian coast at some of the highest elevations in Bolgheri, between roughly 150 and 205 meters above sea level. Their varied exposures, together with sea breezes and strong sunlight, help the grapes reach full ripeness while preserving freshness. The soils are mainly marl and claystone, with sandstone and silica-rich rocks adding structure and complexity.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected at the winery before gentle pressing. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place in steel and concrete tanks at controlled temperatures for around 25 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in the same vessels. The wine then matures for more than a year in oak barrels before additional bottle aging refines its precision and elegance.
Food & Serving
This is a fine match for grilled steak, roast lamb, braised beef, game, and rich Tuscan dishes such as pappardelle with wild boar ragù. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about 1–2 hours if opening it young to help the wine fully open up.
Producer
Argentiera is one of Bolgheri’s most prestigious estates, known for combining a prime coastal position with some of the highest vineyards in the appellation. The name refers to the ancient silver mines of the area, linking the winery to the deep history of the region. With a strong reputation for refined, highly rated wines, Argentiera has become a standout producer in modern Tuscan winemaking.
