Description

Angelo Negro’s Barbaresco Basarin 2023 is a structured, still red wine made from Nebbiolo in the celebrated Basarin cru of Neive. Its traditional élevage and presentation in the historic Albeisa bottle connect this single-cru Barbaresco with Piedmont’s long-standing wine heritage.

Tasting Notes
It shows a classic garnet-red hue, with aromas of red fruit, spice and fine citrus notes. On the palate, balanced structure and composed tannins frame the fruit, leading to a soft, gently mentholated finish. Its structure and reported capacity for extended bottle ageing make it a wine to enjoy young with some aeration or cellar for further development.

Production
The Nebbiolo comes from south-facing vineyards in the Basarin cru, near 350 metres above sea level. The soils are calcareous marl of Miocene Helvetian origin, with sandy seams. Grapes are hand-harvested in October and undergo gentle extraction with submerged-cap maceration for 15–18 days. The wine is matured for 26 months, including time in Slavonian oak casks followed by bottle ageing.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. It should pair well with braised beef, roast lamb, game, or dishes featuring mushrooms and aged cheeses. Decant for about an hour before serving to let the aromas open; older bottles may benefit from careful decanting to separate any sediment.
