Andremily Grenache, 2019

Andremily Grenache 2019 is a bold, characterful California red that shows just how far Grenache can be pushed in the right hands. Crafted by Jim Binns with a free-thinking, terroir-driven approach, it takes cues from both southern Rhône blending tradition and a more adventurous Spanish influence, resulting in a wine that feels both familiar and distinctly modern.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it is deep and generous, with the kind of richness that immediately signals warmth, concentration, and serious ripeness. The nose opens with layers of red and dark berries, lifted by Grenache’s signature herbal, Mediterranean-style spice and a subtle savory edge. The palate is full-bodied and expansive, yet carried by fine-grained tannins and well-integrated acidity that keep the wine from feeling heavy. The fruit is mature and plush, but there is enough freshness and structure to suggest excellent balance and the ability to age gracefully over the next several years.

Production
Produced in California from a blend inspired by GSM-style wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this cuvée also includes a nod to Spain through the addition of Graciano. Jim Binns works without rigid dogma, focusing instead on matching the right varieties to the site and allowing the terroir to shape the final expression. The wine spent 21 months in a combination of French 225-liter barriques and 600-liter demi-muids, with 50% new oak to add complexity without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is a wine built for richly flavored dishes such as grilled lamb, braised short ribs, herb-roasted pork, or Mediterranean-style dishes with rosemary, thyme, and black olives. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the aromas open and the texture soften.
