Description
Andremily EABA 2018 is a powerful, Rhône-inspired California red that showcases Jim Binns’ exceptional blending talent. Built on Syrah with Mourvèdre, Grenache and a touch of Viognier, it combines richness, precision and remarkable balance in a style that has drawn comparisons to the great wines of the Southern Rhône.
Tasting Notes
Deep, opaque ruby in the glass, this is a wine that immediately gives off a sense of depth and concentration. The nose opens with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, layered with wood smoke, cured meat, black olive, cracked pepper and a hint of dried herbs.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, yet carefully composed, with bold dark fruit wrapped around savory, peppery nuances and a firm, mouth-coating texture. Mourvèdre contributes a more rugged, grainy structure that gives the wine edge and grip, while the Grenache and Viognier add lift, spice and aromatic complexity. Already impressive now, it also has the density and structure to develop beautifully over the coming years.
Production
Sourced from Californian vineyards and crafted in a style inspired by the great blends of the Rhône Valley, EABA is assembled with year-to-year precision rather than a fixed formula. The 2018 blend is based on Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache, with a small amount of Viognier and a secret final portion, reflecting Jim Binns’ highly refined approach to balancing power, freshness and texture.
The wine was matured for 22 months in French oak barriques, with 50% new barrels, adding structure, spice and subtle toast while preserving the purity of the fruit. The result is a layered, cellar-worthy red with both depth and definition.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled ribeye, lamb chops, slow-braised short ribs, venison or richly seasoned roast meats. It also works well with dishes that bring smoky, herbal or peppery elements, such as barbecue lamb or rosemary-crusted beef. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine’s aromas and structure to open fully.
Producer
Andremily is the personal project of Jim Binns, who built his reputation as cellarmaster at the acclaimed Sine Qua Non before launching his own label. His experience and instinct for Rhône varieties have made Andremily one of California’s most respected producers of bold, highly detailed red wines. The winery has gained strong critical recognition, especially for its ability to produce powerful wines that remain balanced, expressive and age-worthy.
