Description

Anapea Village’s 2022 Vardisperi Rkatsiteli is a distinctive amber wine made from one of Kakheti’s rarest grape varieties. This pink-berried mutation, which arose spontaneously in 1948, brings an unusual story and character to Georgia’s long tradition of qvevri winemaking.

Tasting Notes
Golden in colour with subtle pink reflections, it opens with aromas of rose, barberry and warm spices. The palate is soft and generous, with citrus, plum and raspberry flavours, earthy minerality, lively acidity and balanced tannins, leading to a long finish.

Production
The hand-harvested grapes come from an organically farmed vineyard in Kakheti. Fermentation took place spontaneously in qvevri over five months, including two weeks of skin contact; the wine then matured for a further two years in the cellar and was bottled without added sulphur. Further details about the vineyard’s specific terroir are not available.

Food & Serving
Try it with roast poultry, grilled vegetables, mushroom dishes or firm, aged cheeses. Serve slightly cool, around 12–14°C, to bring out its aromatic detail while allowing the texture to show. A brief decant can help open the wine, especially if it has been bottle-aged.
