Description

Anapea Village Kisi Dry Amber Wine 2020 is a characterful Georgian orange wine crafted from the rare Kisi grape, vinified in traditional qvevri. This is a deeply authentic expression of Kakheti, where ancient methods meet meticulous organic farming. Its long skin contact and patient aging deliver a structured, textural white that behaves almost like a fine, lightly tannic red at the table.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Kisi shows a deep amber to burnished gold hue, with a slight haze that reflects its minimal-intervention, unfiltered style. The nose is complex and evolving, with notes of dried apricot, quince, orange peel and bergamot, layered with chamomile tea, honeycomb, dried apple, walnut skin and gentle spice. On the palate, it is dry, firm and textural, with a pronounced tannic grip from six months of skin contact, balanced by a vibrant, food-friendly acidity. Flavours echo the nose: stone fruit, citrus zest, dried herbs, black tea and subtle savoury notes, with hints of resin and a saline, mineral finish. The structure and concentration give this wine very good aging potential; it can be enjoyed now for its energy and grip, or cellared for 5–8 years to gain even more harmony and complexity.

Production
The Kisi grapes come from a single one-hectare vineyard in Kakheti, farmed lovingly by the Anapea family according to organic guidelines set by the Georgian Natural Wine Association. The warm, sunny Kakhetian climate and stony, well-drained soils are ideal for slowly ripening Kisi while preserving its natural acidity. Harvest is done by hand to ensure precise selection of healthy, fully ripe fruit. Vinification follows the traditional Kakhetian method: whole berries ferment with their skins and pips for six months in large clay qvevri buried underground, providing natural temperature regulation and gentle micro-oxygenation. After pressing, the young wine is racked into specially designed qvevri for up to a year of further maturation, before being bottled and allowed to rest an additional three months. Intervention is kept to an absolute minimum, with no fining and no chemical additives, allowing the grape and terroir to speak clearly.

Food & Serving
This amber Kisi is extremely versatile at the table and pairs beautifully with richly flavoured, aromatic dishes. Try it with Georgian cuisine such as khachapuri, pkhali, grilled vegetables, walnut sauces and roasted poultry, or more broadly with Middle Eastern mezze, tagines, mushroom dishes, aged cheeses and charcuterie. It also works well with fatty fish (like salmon or trout), braised white meats, and spiced vegetarian dishes. Serve slightly cool, around 12–14°C, to highlight both its aromatic complexity and textural depth. A short decant of 20–30 minutes is recommended to let the wine open up and soften the tannins; for older bottles, a gentle pour rather than a vigorous decant is best.

Producer
Anapea Village is a small, family-run estate in Georgia’s historic Kakheti region, dedicated to reviving traditional qvevri winemaking and indigenous grape varieties such as the nearly extinct Kisi. Working to the strict standards of the Georgian Natural Wine Association, the family farms organically and intervenes as little as possible in the cellar, producing wines that are both deeply rooted in place and remarkably pure. In a landscape where industrial winemaking once threatened local diversity, Anapea Village has helped showcase the potential of natural, qvevri-aged wines from Kakheti, earning a loyal following among enthusiasts of authentic Georgian wine and contributing to the international recognition of the region’s ancient winemaking heritage.
