Alter Ego is the second wine of Château Palmer, one of Margaux’s most admired names, offering a more approachable expression of the estate while still carrying its unmistakable elegance and depth. The 2023 vintage reflects the finesse and precision associated with this legendary Left Bank property, making it a compelling choice for Bordeaux lovers seeking a refined, modern-style Margaux.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Alter Ego 2023 is expected to show a deep ruby hue with a vibrant, youthful edge. The bouquet typically leans toward ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, violet and subtle spice, with the kind of polished floral lift that makes Margaux so distinctive.
On the palate, it should feel supple and layered, with fine-grained tannins, bright freshness and a graceful core of dark fruit, cedar and mineral nuances. While already attractive in youth, it should also reward short to medium-term cellaring as the wine gains complexity and softness over time.
Production
Produced at Château Palmer in Margaux, this wine comes from vineyards on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravelly soils and a temperate Atlantic-influenced climate help Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot achieve balance, aromatic precision and structure. Harvesting is typically done by hand with careful sorting, and vinification follows the estate’s meticulous approach to preserve purity of fruit, texture and the signature finesse of the property.
Food & Serving
Serve with roasted lamb, duck breast, beef fillet, mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses. Ideal serving temperature is around 16–18°C, and a short decant of 30–60 minutes can help open the wine and soften its youthful edges.
Producer
Château Palmer is one of Margaux’s most prestigious estates, renowned for producing wines of perfume, elegance and remarkable consistency. As its second wine, Alter Ego offers a more accessible interpretation of the château’s style while still reflecting the quality and reputation that have made Palmer a benchmark name in Bordeaux.
