Description
Alois Lageder Pinot Noir Krafuss 2023 is a refined Alpine red that highlights the elegance and precision of Pinot Noir from northern Italy. Sourced from the cool, high-altitude vineyards of Alto Adige, it combines fresh fruit, graceful structure, and a distinctly mineral edge. Alois Lageder is one of the region’s most respected names, long known for championing biodynamic farming and expressive, terroir-driven wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright ruby-red colour with a translucent, polished sheen. The nose is lifted and nuanced, with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, and subtle earthy spice, often supported by a hint of forest floor and alpine herbs.
The palate is vibrant and finely etched, offering juicy red berry fruit, taut acidity, and silky tannins that give the wine a graceful, medium-bodied frame. Its cool-climate profile lends freshness and finesse rather than power, and while it is approachable young, it should continue to develop attractive savoury complexity over the next few years.
Production
Krafuss comes from vineyards in Trentino-Alto Adige, where alpine influence, warm daytime sunshine, and cool nights help preserve freshness and aromatic detail in Pinot Noir. The soils in this part of Alto Adige are typically well-drained and mineral-rich, contributing to the wine’s precision and sense of place. Harvest is generally carried out by hand, and vinification is handled with a light touch to preserve purity of fruit and the variety’s delicate structure.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast poultry, duck breast, mushroom dishes, veal, and salmon, as well as Alpine-inspired cuisine and earthy vegetarian plates. Serve slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider a short decant if opening in its youth to allow the aromatics to unfold.
Producer
Founded in 1823 and now regarded as a benchmark producer in Alto Adige, Alois Lageder has built a reputation for quality, sustainability, and innovation. The estate is especially recognised for its biodynamic farming approach and its commitment to expressing the character of each vineyard site. Over the years, it has become one of the most influential producers in northern Italy, with a portfolio that consistently earns strong critical respect.
