Adelina McLaren Shiraz 2022

Adelina McLaren Shiraz 2022 is a superb South Australian red that brings together old-vine intensity and elegant freshness in one outstanding bottle. Built from 75% Shiraz off 125-year-old vines and 25% Mataro from Adelina’s organically farmed vineyards, it reflects both heritage and modern craft at a remarkably compelling value.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark colour that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is immediately expressive, with aromas of blueberries, raspberries, dried roses, liquorice, a touch of mint, and smoky charcuterie. The palate is richly flavoured and concentrated, yet it never feels heavy thanks to its vibrant freshness and energy. The finish is long and savoury, with notes of tobacco and menthol lingering nicely. While already very impressive now, it has the structure to develop gracefully over the next several years.

Production
The Shiraz comes from the McDowell Brown Vineyard, home to some of Australia’s oldest and finest vines, while the Mataro is sourced from Adelina’s own organically grown parcels in South Australia. The fruit was fully destemmed before fermentation in concrete, followed by nine months of maturation in large oak casks, of which 25% were new.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled beef, game, or richly seasoned Mediterranean dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to let the aromas and savoury detail open up fully.
