Built from a selection of fruit that did not go into the estate’s top cuvées, it still delivers the signature Abreu hallmarks of elegance, balance, and finesse, alongside deep, perfectly ripe fruit.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the dark, concentrated color you’d expect from a serious Napa Cabernet blend. The nose is expressive and layered, with graphite, charcoal, and ripe blue-toned fruit leading the way, supported by subtle savory complexity. The palate is polished and generous, combining rich fruit with silky tannins and a beautifully balanced structure. While it has the depth and class to develop further with time, the 2014 vintage is already remarkably engaging and can be enjoyed with relatively little cellaring compared with Abreu’s more intense single-vineyard wines.

Production
Rothwell Hyde Estate is sourced from a carefully selected mix of fruit from Abreu’s celebrated Napa Valley vineyards, including sites such as Thorevilos and Cappella. As with the producer’s top wines, Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone, complemented by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The blend is assembled from fruit that was not included in the estate’s flagship bottlings, but still reflects the same meticulous vineyard standards and low-yield, quality-focused approach that define Abreu Vineyards.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for premium grilled or roasted beef, lamb, venison, and richly flavored dishes such as braised short ribs or mushroom-based preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and texture to open fully.
