Description
Abreu Las Posadas Proprietary Red 2011 is a rare Howell Mountain bottling from one of California’s most celebrated cult producers, showing the precision and intensity that have made Abreu Vineyards a benchmark for mountain-grown Cabernet blends. Sourced from a high-altitude site above the fog line, it combines Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot in a deeply structured, profoundly expressive wine with remarkable longevity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an inky, dark purple core that hints at its concentration and power. The nose is strikingly layered, with mulberry, blackberry, cassis, graphite, scorched earth, charcoal embers, licorice, and truffle unfolding over time.
The palate is extravagantly rich and full-bodied, yet finely composed, with massive dark fruit, mineral tension, and a long, resonant finish. This is a wine built for the cellar and should continue to evolve beautifully for 40 to 50 years, gaining further complexity and nuance with age.
Production
Las Posadas comes from Abreu’s Howell Mountain vineyard, purchased in 2000 and planted at over 600 meters elevation, above the fog line and protected by surrounding pine and fir forests. The site’s complex soils and cool mountain exposure are ideal for producing concentrated, structured Bordeaux-style reds, and only part of the 13-hectare property has been converted to vines so far. Careful vineyard management and meticulous vinification by Brad Grimes and David Abreu emphasize precision, purity, and site expression.
Food & Serving
Best served with rich, flavorful dishes such as dry-aged steak, braised short ribs, venison, roast lamb, or truffle-based dishes. Decanting for several hours is recommended when young, and serving at around 16–18°C will help раскрыve the wine’s aromatic depth and structure.
Producer
Abreu Vineyards, founded by David Abreu, is one of Napa Valley’s most respected cult producers, known for sourcing and farming some of the region’s most prestigious mountain sites. David Abreu’s reputation for exceptional vineyard work has been central to the estate’s success, and Las Posadas quickly proved itself as one of Howell Mountain’s standout single-vineyard wines from its very first vintage.
